Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi is having doubts about Clarence Seedorf as the man to lead AC Milan to glorious heights.
Seedorf was Berlusconi's preferred candidate to succeed Massimiliano
Allegri, who was sacked in January, and the Dutchman promptly called
time on his playing career to take charge at San Siro.
Despite a rocky start, Seedorf has led Milan
back to within touching distance of a place in the Europa League but
rumours remain rife that he will be sacked at the end of the season,
with his boss said to have doubts about the 38-year-old trainer's
tactical acumen and footballing philosophy.
“This morning I met many people that could keep the Milan dressing room in hand very well," he told Telelombardia.
This was after serving his first day of community service at the Istituto Sacra
Famiglia, which specialises in looking after elderly people suffering
from dementia.
Meanwhile Seedorf has replied to the slight by stating he wants respect, he told reporters :
"I have nothing to say, I did not understand what he said,"
.
"I'm just thinking about the team and the players.
"I could joke and say that it is easy to manage this group. I'm glad
that some players publicly said they are close to me, if they said it,
it means they mean it.
"I don’t want to talk about the president with you, I am relaxed. He praised Vincenzo Montella? You shouldn’t ask me, he’s the one who said it. You're talking to a brick wall asking me.
"I don't want to be teased, I've already answered these questions. I don't want to be treated like a fool, I want respect.
"I know I've been working as a coach for three months, but I've been in
the world of football for 22 years and I'm not stupid. I've always been
respectful to the media and I want journalists to be respectful to me."
The former Milan player then turned his attention to Sunday's meeting
with Atalanta and hopes his side will keep up the same intensity which
has seen them win six of their last seven games, including last week's
derby win over Inter.
"We’re riding the wave of the derby. Atalanta did well against Juventus
and have a few young players who want to prove themselves.
"My team is in good shape and we know what is at stake here. We must
always keep up that psychological balance. I want the same mentality and
grit that we’ve seen in recent games.
Seedorf won two Champions Leagues during his decade-long stint with Milan as a player before moving to Botafogo in 2012.
