A 35-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Ismaila Isa, stunned
passersby on Monday when he jumped into a pond at Onipepeye area on the
outskirts of Ibadan.
Witnesses said the victim, who drowned in the incident,
often plied the Adegbayi-Alakia-Gate route and was seen that morning at work.
One of the witnesses, a commercial motorcyclist, said the
deceased parked his motorcycle by the side of the stagnant pool and jumped in.
Another commercial motorcyclist was said to have brought out
the corpse of the victim after he had drowned.
The Oyo State Director of Fire Service, Oyekunle Kareem,
confirmed the incident.
“We were there and saw the corpse being retrieved from the
pool,” he said.
He said the corpse was handed over to the police after the
recovery from the pool.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the
state, Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor, said the command was yet to be informed about
the incident.
