WorldStage Newsonline-- A major tragedy was averted in
Owerri, the Imo State capital on Sunday when the Police uncovered Improvised
Explosive Device (IED) planted at the main auditorium and car park of the
Living Faith Church popularly known as Winners’ Chapel Headquarters.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew
Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who confirmed the incident,
said that the IEDs which were planted in the Church premises were discovered by
the Police following a tip off by the security men attached to the Church.
He said that the explosives were already primed and could
have detonated during the Sunday service if not for the prompted action of the
Police.
He said, “the Bomb Disposal Unit have removed the IEDs and
detonated them and have equally swept the Church and the premises to ensure
that no more bombs are still in the Church. It could have been a major disaster
if not for the prompt arrival of the Police.”
He said that six people have been arrested and are currently
assisting the Police to unravel those behind the aborted attack.
