The Rivers State police command 0n July 5 busted a child factory operating in Igwurita, Ikwere
Local Government Area of the state.
Three heavily pregnant women in their early twenties and a
middle aged man, Stanley Okechukwu, were paraded at the state police
headquarters.
He said, “In the course of our patrols, we received
information that somebody has developed a business empire whereby he brings in
girls from different communities and from various Local governments to keep in
his rented apartment, where he keeps them with their pregnancy until they are
delivered.
“When they are delivered, he will settle the girls with
either N150,000 or N100,000, in case of a male or female child respectively.
“According to the suspects, after settling the girls, he
will come to them and sell the delivered babies”.
The DPO called on tenants and landlords to beware of who
they give their houses, adding that most people rent houses for criminal
reasons.
“The Commissioner of Police directed that officers should
enlighten the communities to be careful and make sure they know the kind of
people they harbour and tenants they give their houses.
“Sometimes, these people are not ordinary tenants. They do
all manner of nefarious activities without the knowledge of the landlords. So
the landlords are to be informed”, he warned.
