In the 86th minute, Neymar was taken down after Colombia’s
Juan Camilo Zuniga jumped for a loose ball and threw his knee into Neymar’s
back and left the 22-year-old writing in pain on the pitch.
The medical staff immediately stretchered a crying Neymar
off the field of play and directly into the tunnel for tests.
Zuniga has since denied that he had intentions to hurt the
Brazilian, but FIFA says they will analyse the incident for which the defender
was not booked.
“The disciplinary committee is analysing the matter. The
spirit of fair play is very important and we want to avoid difficult things on
the field of play,” Delia Fischer, FIFA’s head of media said at a briefing on
Saturday.
Former Selecao striker Ronaldo, also insisted that Zuniga
has a case to answer.
“The challenge was a very violent one – I believe there was
an intention by the Colombian player to cause some harm,” he told reporters in
Brazil.
“I don’t think it was normal football play, I don’t know
whether he had planned this beforehand but I do believe it was very aggressive,
very violent.”
