Blessing Okagbare, on Thursday, at the on-going Commonwealth
Games, in Glasgow, won the women’s 200 metres title to add to the 100 metres
title she won on Monday.
Okagbare’s gold arrived only minutes after Ese Brume had
leapt to glory in the women’s Long Jump to claim Nigeria’s first gold medal of
the day.
Running out of lane six, Okagbare finished the race in
22.25secs, just short of the 22.20secs Games record, and her personal best of
22.23secs, ahead of England’s trio of Jodie Williams (22.50secs), Bianca
Williams (22.58secs) and Anyika Onuora (22.64secs), who finished second, third
and fourth respectively.
The two gold medal wins has moved Nigeria to eighth on the
medals’ table with eight gold medals. England still tops with 44 and is
followed by Australia with 36.
