Nigerian Doctors Suspend 55 Days Strike, Resume Work Today..

Medical practitioners in Nigeria, under the aegis of the Nigerian Medical Association, on Sunday suspended their 55-day-old industrial action with immediate effect.

President of the association, Dr. Kayode Obembe, who addressed journalists in Abuja, subsequently directed members to resume at their various duty posts on Monday 25th  of August.

The doctors went on strike on July 1, 2014 over a 24-point demand bordering on welfare, condition of service and poor facilities in government hospitals.

But Obembe said the decision to suspend the industrial action was taken after the emergency delegates meeting of the association, which held in Abuja on Saturday.

He explained that the strike was suspended in the interest of urgent national emergency while negotiations with the Federal Government continued.
