Local hunters in Adamawa State felled about 75 members of
the Boko Haram sect who had been terrorising residents of the northern part of
the state.
The insurgents have increased attacks on the areas, as they
attacked two local government areas, Michika and Madagali, while thousands of
residents fled the towns.
It was also reported that normalcy had started returning to
Michika, as Nigerian troops were gradually taking control of the annexed areas,
beating the insurgents to a retreat.
Meanwhile the Defence headquarters, on Wednesday, denied
reports credited to Boko Haram insurgents that members of the terrorists group
had attacked Mubi and were in control of the city in Adamawa State.
The headquarters also said Nigerian soldiers were in full
control of the Mubi, adding that the situation remained calm.
Astatement posted on Defence Tweeter handle, on Wednesday,
read: “Mubi has not been attacked. Troops are still in patrol. Deployment
positions in and around the town, keeping watch. Situation is calm.”
However, a competent source in the military said Mubi had
become the centre of troops and equipment mobilisation for a new assault on the
remnants of the terrorists, who moved into Adamawa from Gwoza, through
Madagali.
The source added that reinforcements of troops from the
headquarters of the 3 Division, Jos and the 1 Division, Kaduna, had taken place
to assist the onslaught.
