The General Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde
Bakare, has lauded the leadership qualities and integrity of the presidential
candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Major-General Muhammadu
Buhari, but he says he doubts the political environment where the man has found
himself.
Pastor Bakare made the remarks after delivering a lecture at
a Lent and Easter event, organised by the Lagos Island Club in Lagos.
He described Buhari as a man of integrity who, he said, he
had a high level of respect for, but the cleric did not mince words in doubting
the transparency and integrity of many of those the APC presidential candidate
was working with politically.
When apparently making attempt to explain his position
further, the cleric, who is also the convener of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG),
questioned the source of wealth of some of the politicians in Buhari’s camp.
“How can those who want to bring change be with so many
excess baggage?” he queried.
Pastor Bakare insisted that he did not belong to any
political party, but disclosed that he had been offering his help, in terms of
advice and counsel to both parties, when necessary.
He also called on Christians to seek understanding of the
word of God rather than following a set of rules made by man, but which are
rooted in religion.
Bakare, who insisted that biblical illiteracy by Christians
was largely responsible for many of the ills bedevilling the church, called on
Christians to set aside indoctrination of fellow men, who infuse people with
ungodly teachings.
