Tecno lights up Ikeja community, Computer Village.

Smartphone manufacturing company, Tecno, has commenced the installation of solar-powered street lights in Ikeja area of Lagos State where the company’s head office is located.

The Managing Director, Tecno Nigeria, Chidi Okonkwo, said the iFLUX energy lights had 24 months guarantee.

He said although the 88 street lights belonged to the community, Tecno had taken the time to ensure steady maintenance would be carried out on the lights to avoid being run down.

“In the past, we had seen street light projects failing but this particular Tecno street light project cannot fail because we understand to what extent the use of substandard materials and quack engineering can damage brilliant ideas and dent a company’s image.

“So to avoid this pitfall, Tecno has used the best solar-powered and LED technology from a leading Chinese multinational, iFLUX Lighting Company, to execute the Ikeja street light project,” Okonkwo said.

The Tecno Nigeria MD stated that every resource at his company’s disposal was deployed to secure the best materials for the project.

“We cannot jeopardise a long-running relationship of mutual respect between Tecno and our host by inaugurating a bogus project in the presence of Nigeria’s leading media houses,” he added.

According to the company’s Deputy Marketing Manager, Attai Oguche, the project is Tecno’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, “and one of its CSR projects that has been inaugurated.”

He said the initiative began in November 2015 after Tecno received approval from the Lagos State Government.

“The aim of beginning the CSR project with Ikeja is to foster a better business atmosphere and security in and around the electronics market at night,” Oguche added.
