Senator Adetunji Adeleke Suspended From PDP, Defects To APC

Senator Adetunji Adeleke, former Governor of Osun state, has been suspended by the Peoples Democratic Party Osun State chapter, this move was announced on Friday by the state party chairman Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa.

According to Olaoluwa, ”the decision was taken after the extended executive committee meeting of the party where the activities of Senator Adeleke were x-rayed”.

Olaoluwa commented that it was embarrassing and shameful that Adeleke could engage in anti-party activities when all hands should be on deck in ensuring that the PDP reclaims its glory”.

Adeleke had on Thursday confirmed to newsmen in Osogbo, the state capital that he was set to defect from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former Osun governor disclosed that he would formally declare for the APC today at a political rally in Osogbo.

Adeleke who had been with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decided to give up his former party that he alleged has been taken-over by people whose character is reportedly incompatible with civilised conduct and democratic standard.

It was alleged that the Senator was publicly attacked and humiliated by suspected PDP thugs who violently stopped him from participating in their party’s primary, from which Senator Iyiola Omisore emerged as candidate for the August 9th governorship election in the state.

Adeleke’s departure from the PDP has been seen as a weighty knock to the party’s electoral fortunes, and added advantage to APC’s outlook for electoral victory.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded plans for an impressive reception for him today at the Nelson Mandela Park, Oshogbo where he will formally and officially join the party.
“The APC therefore calls on its supporters, party leaders, Senators, House representatives, State legislators and members of the State Executives Council to be present at the Nelson Mandela Park to welcome the gentleman politician to the Party in style and with fanfare”, the party had announced.
