Meriam Ibrahim, the Sudanese woman who was freed yesterday
June 23rd after months of being in detention for marrying a Christian and
denouncing her Muslim faith has been re-arrested by security officials at the
Khartoum Airport in Sudan.
Meriam Ibrahim, along with her husband, Daniel Wani, and two
sons, were re-arrested on Tuesday at the Khartoum Airport, where they were scheduled
to travel to the U.S.
They were surrounded by security officers at the airport
numbering about 40. Her lawyer, Elshareef Ali, had described the reversal of
her death sentence and her release from prison as “victory for religion.”
The Sudanese government officials have so far not commented
on her re-arrest, nor have they offered the media and public what she has been
charged with
