Director-General of the Department of State Security (DSS),
Ita Ekpeyong, Monday denied the arrest of a former Minister of Education, Oby
Ezekwesili at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.
He told State House correspondents that reports which
claimed Ezekwesili was arrested were false, wondering how someone, who is
currently in London, could have been arrested.
“She is currently in London and that shows you that she was
not arrested. We did not arrest her,”
Ezekwesili, who is one of the arrowheads of the
BringBackOurGirls campaign, was briefly delayed but released by SSS operatives
as she tried to travel to London for a scheduled engagement.
The finance expert
had tweeted Monday morning that she was heading to London to appear on the BBC
Hardtalk programme but was prevented from boarding her flight.
The officers confiscated her travelling documents, she said.
Ezekwesili has been consistently pressurising the Nigerian
government to act more decisively in rescuing the over 200 schoolgirls abducted
on April 14, 2014.
