A spokesman for a rogue Libyan officer, Khalifa Haftar, said his forces had attacked the building to arrest Islamists, but had met with resistance.

Reports say the parliament was warned about an attack, and had suspended its session.
The Libyan government is struggling to contain militias who control parts of the country.
