Jounalist Abducted By Armed Government Operatives In Akwa Ibom

A senior editor of Global concord, a popular Uyo based newspaper was reportedly seized by three gun-wielding men suspected to be government operatives, Tuesday.

The editor identified as Thomas was abducted at about 6 p.m. at the popular Aka Road/NEPA Line junction in Uyo, the chairman of the paper’s Editorial Board, Unyime Equere, told Premium Times, Wednesday.

The editor was said to be riding in a tricycle popularly known as Keke Napep, when he was attacked by the plain-clothed armed men. According to a witness, Thomas attempted to escape on realizing the tricycle was being trailed by a car.

But as Mr. Thomas made to run, the witness said, three men emerged from a Toyota Corolla and chased down the fleeing editor, promptly handcuffed and forced him into the waiting car. When passer-by offered to help the seized editor, the attackers reportedly drew their pistols.
Mr. Thomas was  whisked away to an unknown destination.
