Luis Suarez will see his £10million-a-year Barcelona pay
packet slashed by up to £3m if he tries to bite a chunk out of another
opponent, writes Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People.
Liverpool say Barcelona paid the £75m they wanted for the
27-year-old, but the La Liga side claim the figure was 80m Euros – £61m.
His salary makes Suarez the fourth highest-paid player at
the club behind Lionel Messi, Neymar and Andres Iniesta, but he will drop a
long way behind if there is any repeat of the shameful biting antics that have
landed him in hot water three times.
Suarez’s contract at Barca is littered with clauses which
will hit him hard if he errs again and Sunday People Sport understands he could
be docked as much as 15 to 30 per cent of his wages.
The club intend to pursue an appeal to have his four-month
ban from all football-related activities reduced and are hopeful they will
succeed.
Suarez is expected in Barcelona on Tuesday and is set to be
unveiled on Wednesday at the city’s L’Auditori building before going on
holiday.
Sources close to the Catalan giants briefed local media that
they were delighted to have landed Suarez for less than the 100m euro – £80m –
they would have had to pay under normal circumstances.
