Boko Haram ‘Chief Butcher’ In Police Custody – Official

You remember the boko haram suspect that the military said they were unable to ascertain his whereabouts , well either he's been found or was never missing. The suspect was shown to some journalist in one of the police facilities in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Nigeria Police says a Boko Haram suspect, self-styled “Chief Butcher’’ of the sect, Mohammed Zakari, arrested by it in Balmo forest in Bauchi, did not escape from custody.

The suspect was shown to some journalist in one of the police facilities in Abuja on Wednesday by the force spokesperson, Frank Mba.

“For the past few days, there has been very strong rumour that the suspect, Zakari, had escaped from custody.

“It is primarily in response to that (rumour of escape) that we have decided to bring the suspect out to interact with you (newsmen).

“This is in the best culture of transparency of policing operations; you have seen him for yourselves. There is no gainsaying now that the suspect who has been alleged to have escaped is in our facility,” Mr. Mba said.
Mr. Zakari told journalists that he joined the sect in 2012, and belonged to a five-man gang of the sect, who specialised in “slaughtering human beings’’.

The suspect, who spoke through an interpreter, named other the four members of the slaughtering team as “Hassan, Garba, Mohammed and Isa’’ now at large.

“My real name is Mohammed Zakari, I am also known as Hardu. I am 30 years old, I hail from Bauchi,” he said.

“My duty is to slaughter human beings; the duty of the others is to tie the victims whenever we get one.
“I have slaughtered five persons, it takes me only two minute to slaughter a victim after being tied by other members of the gang,’’ the suspect said.

Mr. Zakari, described by the police as “high profile member’’ of the sect, was arrested on July 12, while he was fleeing the forest.

The police alleged that he participated in the slaughter of seven people, including women and children.
