The Plateau State police command has arrested a man, who
allegedly sold his wife to ritualists for N800,000.
Parading the suspects, the state Police Commissioner, Nasiru
Oki, said the man, identified as Maimako, who resides at Kwalla in Qanpan Local
Government Area of the state, lured his wife, Agnes, to a nearby bush on a
pretext to fetch firewoods for domestic use, adding that on getting to spot,
where the ritualists were waiting, he handed his wife over to them and
disappeared after collecting the money.
To the surprise of the husband, the wife resurfaced and he
had to take to his heels, but was later arrested by the people of the village
and handed over to the police.
Speaking with newsmen at the police headquarters, the
suspect confessed to the crime and admitted that his wife was not suitable for
the ritual, adding he did what he did due to hardship, but that he tricked the
men to collect initial deposit of N400, 000, expecting to collect the remaining
afterwards.
