Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has enjoined all Nigerians not to be downcast over Mama Awolowo's Death, describing it as a departure of an icon that should be celebrated by all.

Obasanjo said when he first heard of Mama Awolowo’s demise, he immediately put a phone call through to one of her daughters, Dr. Tokunbo Dosunmu to confirm the development.

The former president  arrived at the country home of the Awolowo’s at about 7:20pm to condole with the family, said that the death of the nonagenarian was least expected at this point in time noting that he was only looking forward to her centenary celebrations.

“Mama’s life had been a joy to many as the matriach of the Yoruba race having been the first lady of the Western Region. There must not be a vaccum. Mama’s shoe is too big ,what all of us will have to do is to make our feet bigger so as to enter her shoes.
