Despite military campaign against the Boko Haram insurgents,
the foot soldiers stormed Gulak town in Adamawa state over the weekend. Report
says while several residents escaped, the terrorists were able to abduct up to
50 young women who were at a preaching venue.
DailyPost gathered that the women were reportedly loaded
into trucks and whisked away by the insurgents as attempts by the military to
rescue them failed.
According to a report in Daily Trust, a resident disclosed
that he got news of the abduction while she was hiding in a village near Gulak,
prior to his escape yesterday. He said the victims, including married women,
were abducted regardless of plea.
A resident of Husra village in Michika LGA, Musa Uba, also
disclosed that young men were forcefully taken away to join the insurgents
after recruitment efforts through preaching did not get the insurgents
volunteers.
“They conducted preaching sessions to attract converts to
their sect but people only listened out of fear. The next day they asked if
anybody wanted to join them but there was no response, so they selected many
healthy looking young men and ordered them to follow them. One of the victims
is my relative who did body building exercises regularly,” he said.
