The Nigerian military on Monday in Abuja said it has
intensified its search for its missing Air Force plane.
This was stated by the Chief of Air Staff, Ademola Amosun,
after a meeting at the Presidential Villa.
The Nigerian Air Force aircraft, an Alpha Jet, NAF 466,
involved in a counter insurgency operation against the Boko Haram terrorist
group, went missing on Friday.
The military had, in a statement early Sunday, confirmed
that the jet went missing while on a mission in Adamawa State.
The military said the aircraft left Yola at about 10:45 a.m.
on Friday on a routine operational mission and was expected back by 12:00 noon
but never returned to base.
It also said that efforts to establish contact with the
aircraft did not yield any positive result.
“The weather has not been helpful as we have deployed all
our surveillance capability, the citizens have been very, very helpful and we
have gotten good information from them. But the information we are getting from
the citizens are good but not sufficient enough for us to define the area of
search,” he said.
